100% engraftment!
Dr. DeSantes called last night to give us some great news. As of the August 8th engraftment test, he is 100% engrafted. We are so happy, now we just have to concentrate on his ANC and WBC levels and hope they keep going up as they have.
We can’t wait to have Hayden go outside next year and touch sand, swim in a pool and just be able to go to gatherings and be a kid! He has had his first year without learning about all the great things there is to see outside. Soon right?

I know this a bit late, and from a stranger no less, but congrats!
My son went the bone marrow route, and was successful. He had the bonemarrow transplant at 18months old. We had some small setbacks (the bone marrow started attacking the red blood cells) but after a few rounds with chemo (drugs, no radiation) he now has a normal immune system!
I think we did ivig for an additional 18 months after the transplant. We were able to do them at home with the Hickman line.
We kept him away from kids (and sick adults) untill he was 6 (he was home schooled, as the teachers from the school came to us)
But January of 2009 he entered public school and is doing good!
I am glad to hear the stem cell transplant worked. We were given that option in new york, but decided to go the bonemarrow route from the advice of Dr hanns Ochs (person who invented the test for was)
